Reflection

This shot was taken in early morning on Labor Day last Monday. The morning light was reflecting off this apartment building downtown near Chinatown. On one of the building's decks stood someone, likely reflecting on the start of a new day...

A Morning Jog

The Taft Bridge, named after President William Howard Taft Bridge is located in Washington, DC between Dupont Circle and Woodley Park. Rock Creek Park is situated below which has a trail for people to walk, run or bike. I captured this shot in the morning as the sun was raising creating a shadow of the bridge's prominent wide arches.

On Duty

It is that time of the year again when the early morning light from the sunrise enters inside the Lincoln Memorial. At that time of the morning, you can feel a sense of intimacy if there are not too many people around.  Indeed, the way the sun hit inside the Lincoln Memorial in the morning can feel very magical. I tried to capture it this morning but unfortuately mother nature had other plans, so here are some photos from a few years back. 

Nationals Baseball Game

On a beautiful May evening last year I had the opportunity to attend a Washington Nationals Baseball Game with an old friend. The weather was absolutely perfect and although I did post them on my Flickr account, I never made a post for them on my blog. So here they are!

Golden Girl

I was expermenting with my x100 at the Georgetown waterfront when I captured this shot. I had pointed the camera down and waited for this girl to run into my frame. Intrigued by camera, she looked up as she was running past me. I missed the focus on the girl but stopped the aperture down enough to have fairly large DOF.

Asleep at Starbucks

There are those moments when I feel a photographic inspiration, but I don't have a camera on me. As my D7000 is too big of a camera to have on me all the time, I recently acquired a Fuji X100 to become my everyday camera.  Being a large sensor compact camera, I can take it basically everywhere with me while maintaining an image quality similar to my D7000. I was in Starbucks in Tentley about a month ago when I captured this shoot. Perhaps if the man had drank his tea he wouldn't have fallen asleep. The photographer of the shot, ordered the drink in the foreground. In the background, a woman is leaving with a drink.

Kayacking

When I was in Colorado last summer, staying in Frisco, I got early one morning and walked out to nearby Lake Dillon. The waters in Lake Dillon were quite calm, although there were a few people taking their kayacks out. Using the calmness of the lake's water as a mirror, I captured this shot.

Just a street photography shot that I captured of this dry cleaner in Adam's Morgan playing his horn while on the job.

Good Vibrations

During this summer, I spent a few Sundays at Drummer's Circle to photograph life there. I was there back in May (see Mother's Day at Drummers Circle) and posted photos here taken with my Nikon FE film camera. For these other times, however, I came back with my digital D7000.

Here are a few more shots taken using Kodak Tri-X 400 B&W film with my Nikon FE last Sunday at Drummers Circle. They were taken with 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm lenses. There were hits and misses (difficulty in clearly capturing the "I love Mom" pin in the photo from my previous post for example). Shooting with film does encourage you to think more about the image you want to capture and helps encourage better shot displine.
