McPherson Square : 12-04-11

Last Sunday, December 4, I went downtown to McPherson Square to photograph the Occupy DC movement.  While I was down there, there was a stand off between police and demonstrators from the movement. This event was covered heavily in the news so I will not go in depth regarding it. The demonstrators from the movement had built a make shift shelter the night before. This shelter was built without a permit and was therefore declared illegal by the city. Police ordered the demonstrators to leave the structure and gave them a time frame to do so. By the end of the day, the demonstrators, where arrested by police. Some chose to jump off of the structure onto a big air cushion that was put into place by police. Others remained on the structure and were taken off by police using a cherry picker. As this was happening, a member from the movement in the crowd was reading the constitution.  I left before the structure was torn down by police.

Entering the Underpass

This photo was taken in the Dupont Circle area on the weekday morning of November 1. The photo was taken at 10 AM shortly after the morning peak rush hour commute. Hence the traffic below on Connecticut Avenue was flowing at a less consent rhythm than it probably would have been a few hours earlier.  The presence of fall is seen in the yellow colors of a tree in front of the two buildings situated directly in the background. One can also see a little red in the tree next to the building on the far left of the photo just above the bus. The trees on the far right though had yet to really show their fall colors though. To capture this photo, I knelt down and found a space in the pattern of the bars on the barrier of the underpass. Just as I was photographing this image, a greenish scouter, resembling a Vespa, was entering the underpass.

The Fall Fruit

If there is one fruit that represents the season of fall it is probably the pumpkin. Its shade of color is represented in the nature of the season.  We put them up for display next to our doorsteps or in our windows. For Halloween, we decorate them. For Thanksgiving, we eat them. Since those holidays are over for the year now and December will be arriving soon, I wanted to dedicate a post to the pumpkin.

Fall Road Work

A few weeks ago, on a Saturday I found myself walking along the Taft Memorial Bridge in the Wooley Park Neighborhood of DC. The view from the bridge looking down on Rock Creek Parkway is quite pretty during the fall season. Down below, next to the Rock Creek Parkway, there was road construction taking place. I thought the perspective looking down at the work from the bridge was interesting so I decided to shoot the work as it was taking place. Periodically, there were red dump trucks that would drop their load down below and then climb up onto Connecticut Avenue to cross the Taft Memorial Bridge.
